
KAREN L. GABLER concentrates her practice in the representation of employers in all aspects of employment law advice and litigation, including wrongful termination, employment discrimination and harassment, defamation, breach of contract, protection of employer trade secrets and confidential information, executive compensation, workplace privacy, internal investigations, employee discipline, hiring and termination, wage and hour matters, employee benefits, health and safety issues, leaves of absence, development and revision of employee handbooks and personnel policies, and training and preventive counseling for employee relations and litigation avoidance. She has handled civil litigation in both state and federal courts, including class actions and complex litigation matters, as well as numerous administrative hearings, arbitrations, and mediations.
Ms. Gabler conducts seminars and training programs for managers and employees in all areas of employment practices and policies, including harassment, discrimination, management of employees, counseling and discipline, leaves of absence, disability and reasonable accommodation, and handling workplace conflict. She performs internal audits of clients' employment practices to ensure proactive compliance with current laws, and guides client investigations of employee allegations regarding harassment, discrimination, and employee theft or other misconduct.
Ms. Gabler is a frequent speaker on employment law topics and training for clients, community groups, and business professionals. She authors a bimonthly employment law column in the Los Angeles Daily Journal and the San Francisco Daily Journal, and a monthly column on employment law issues for the Simi Valley Business Advocate.
Ms. Gabler is an Adjunct Professor at the Pepperdine University School of Law, where she has taught classes in Employment Law, Employment Law Advice & Counsel, and Employment Law Litigation.
Ms. Gabler is a member and former Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Ventura County, where she serves as the Chair of the Administration Committee, Chair of the Public Policy Committee, Vice-Chair of the Board Development Committee, former Chair of the East County Action Team and former Vice Chair of the Marketing Committee. She is the 2008 Chair of the Board of Directors for the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce and the 2008 Chair Elect of the Simi Valley Community Foundation. Ms. Gabler has served as a member of the Board of Directors and Program Co-Chair for the East Ventura County Employers Advisory Council. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Simi Valley Education Foundation and The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, where she was the Chair of the Personnel Committee. She is also a member of the Women’s Information Network of Simi Valley, the Professionals In Human Resources Association (PIHRA District 10), the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Thousand Oaks/Westlake Village Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. Gabler was listed as one of the Pacific Coast Business Times "Who’s Who in Professional Services" in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties in 2006 and 2007, and one of the Pacific Coast Business Times "Top 40 Under 40" in Ventura County for 2004. She has received 805 Living Magazine’s "Giving Back" award and the United Way of Ventura County’s Milton M. Teague Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
Ms. Gabler earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Hawaii, and earned her Juris Doctorate from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii, where she was the Managing Editor and contributing author for the University of Hawaii Law Review and a member and officer of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. She practiced law in Honolulu, Hawaii for four years before moving her practice to California in 1997. She is actively licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of California and Hawaii.
Ms. Gabler resides in Simi Valley with her husband and their two children. She is a competitive hunter-jumper rider, winning numerous awards with her four horses.
